Vintage Looped Handle Silver Tone Baby Spoon/Taster Spoon with Clasp

Spoons designed like this are meant to help toddlers develop dexterity, the curved handle enabling them to be more easily gripped by small hands. This one also is designed to be able to clip onto a cup or other item, sometimes defined as a taster or syrup spoon online.
 
While baby spoons like this are usually made of silver, ours is not stamped with any known silver markings and tested negative for silver using a home acid test. 
 
It does however have etched markings on the back of the handle which appear to be an Asian language which uses rounded circular letters, which we just learned were used to avoid ripping palm leaf manuscripts with straight up and down lettering – the things you learn! We were unable to get it translated. 
 
We are not sure how this came into our family. Was it gifted to our mother on the birth of one of her daughters, or gifted to her mother on her birth… we will never know…
