Vintage Maasai Beaded Metal Leather Necklace

We believe this was purchased by our mother in Tanzania in the late 1960s. Our understanding is this is traditional Maasai bead work worn by women of the nomadic people in Kenya and Tanzania, their bead work distinctive in the east African region.
 
This one has no beading on the breast pads, which are a heavy coiled metal. The neck strap is leather with some beaded decorations.
 
The leather is showing its age but the rest of the piece appears in original condition.
