Vintage Mexican Concave Sterling Silver Button Screw Back Earrings

These simple yet modern mid century style earrings have different marks on the back, the only one legible stamped STE…. (cut off by the screw back)… MEXICO with APL in the center. We believe the STE cut off by the screw back goes on to read STERLING, and APL is the artist’s initials. They did test positive for silver using an acid test. At least one of the screw backs is not original as they have different food designs – see photos.
 
These were a staple in our grandmother’s vintage jewelry collection. They are in good condition with some scratches and a nick or two barely visible on the edges. They hang just above the ear lobe.
