Vintage Plaid Train Case by Ehrlich of California (Repair Needed)

$15.00Price

The exterior of this black red and white tartan plaid case is in very good vintage condition with only a few signs of use. We only noticed one spot where the tartan seems to be slightly pulling away from the case. The interior, however, is missing the mirror usually attached to the lid. The strap against the back of the case – which we believe was designed to create ‘compartments’ within as a user preferred - is still attached but the last ‘belt loop’ has detached on the bottom side. The strap is also quite dry and possibly brittle. Please see pictures. We also do not have the keys to this piece (but it opens with a lovely pop on each side when you nudge the buttons next to the key holes outwards). One of the locks is a bit off kilter. And the handle and locks have some scratches and other signs of age.

Train cases were small, sturdy, box-like pieces of luggage designed to hold toiletries, cosmetics and other personal items so one would not have to go rummaging through bigger suitcases or trunks while travelling by train. Today they are more often used as decorative storage boxes and by professional make up and hair stylists on the go.
