Vintage Thai Temple Rubbings on Saa Paper: Dancers and Musicians (Set of 4)
These four skinny panels are meant to hang together. They are dark orange and black charcoal temple rubbings on handmade saa (mulberry) paper.
Two dancers grace a panel each, with the other two featuring musicians, one seated, playing the ‘klong tad’drums, one standing with the chake, a zither like instrument integral to Thai classical music. It is a plucked three-string instrument, typically made from wood in a distinctive shape some say is similar to a crocodile…
This is one of several sets of temple rubbings our mother probably purchased while in Thailand although what year these might have been created is unknown.
This set of panels is in excellent condition. We believe they have been rolled up for decades, never taken out of the roll until now.
Each panel H 23 1/2” x L 12”
