Vintage Tibetan Buddhist Woodblock Print: 35 Confession Buddhas
Several of these online are printed equally unevenly, but the significance of the images on this wood block print remains the same.
Based on our online research, the 35 Buddha images each represent different deities to whom one could ‘confess’ through visualization and recitation of their names and prostrations to cure negative karma. This would be of the Skya Pandita system where each is depicted with different hand gestures. See Wikipedia for more information.
This piece is printing on very lightweight lokta paper, handmade from the bark of bushes in Nepal. It has creases, which may be ironed out with a cloth between the print and the iron, or simply pressed flat for some time. It may be delivered folded.
Print itself is H 23” x L 15.5” (printed on larger piece of paper, off center).
