Winona Wenzlick Sands (1907-2002): Travel Sketches: Sunda Sea 1, 1935

$5.00Price

Our grandmother, Winona Wenzlick Sands, drew this while on a world tour in 1934-1935 with her aunts, the Burr sisters.

This is an original. Several more of her original sketches are at the California Historical Society. This one comes right out of her sketchbook from the time and is in amazingly good condition. It is not signed or dated, but Sunda Sea is written on the back in her handwriting. Our research indicates she was talking about either the Sunda Strait between Sumatra and Java, or the Sunda Shelf which are shallow waters extending from Vietnam to Borneo and Java.
